Parent Orientation Information
- Spelling tests given on Thursdays. Lists go home in Friday Folder each week. Weekly review is incorporated during the week in class.
- Spelling grades consist of grades on weekly tests and dictation sentences.
- The students will be assigned one story each week from their reading book. The students are responsible for reading the assigned story and the skills introduced that week. Students should take their books home several times per week to practice reading their story. On Friday of each week, your child will take a test over the assigned story or similar story. Dicsussion of the story and review of the skills taught that week will be practiced. Reading grades will be based on comprehension, reading skills, phonics, writing, and oral reading.
- Language skills are taught each week and reinforced through Daily Language Review. Most grades are taken from spelling dictation and assignments in class.
- Once again, we will be using the program , enVision, for math. The students will have daily homework with the exception of Friday. Students will also be responsible for mastering their addition and subtraction facts (50 addition facts in 2 1/2 minutes and 50 subtraction facts in 3 1/2). Please check homework each night and have your child make corrections before returning to class.
- Social Studies and Science are taught throughout the year and will include many topics of study. Our field trips will also help reinforce and enhance these concepts. I will try to incorporate our units throughout all subject areas. However, no grades are given in these subject areas until third grade per corporation policy.
